firestarter tonight 7pm

after a few months off, firestarter returns tonight in the parish hall at st john's starting at 7pm.

as usual, there will be the chance to worship, pray and discuss in a format slightly different to the morning church services in the parish.

why '40 winks' ?

as usual, at xodus our conversations between games of table tennis and cups of tea, we cover a wide range of topics. last thursday 9/11, margaret thatcher, religious studies, crisps, supermarkets were just some of the topics discussed.

but one comment left us with an unanswered question; why do we say 'we'll have 40 winks' when we talk about sleep?

now we could answer this by looking online for an answer, but we like to find things out by talking to people. i know asking the question on this site is kind of like looking online, but if someones knows the answer and emails us of posts a comment, then it's like having a conversation. isn't it?

so if you know origin of the term '40 winks' when we talk about sleep, please let us know.

thursday night was pancake night for xodus. once slimming world had finished downstairs (we didn't feel it was fair to cook pancakes whilst slimming world were in the next room, the smells would've been too tempting!) we took over the kitchen and had a pancake masterclass from ann.

each young person was given 50p to buy a pancake topping from mills. oli, oli and karl cut their money together and bought a tub of chocolate spread, a creative use of their money and their was plenty for everyone.

firestarter - sunday 8th feb

the last firestarter looked at healing. emily and paul facilitated an excellent conversation led evening. we sat around tables and answered questions about healing, our responses were added to by passing round our scribbled down comments and thoughts; collective wisdom emerged!

i led a time of prayer that invited those present to write down areas within our community that needed healing. as we looked to the north, south, east and west from the church the lists below were created. i'm posting them here as a continuing prayer for the community in and around our church.

dreams and visions

we're always dreaming about how the youth and children's work can develop, and with limitless resources (money and people) we'd be happily working through our list of projects full steam ahead. the projects we're thinking about involve choirs, residentials, worship, young people in business, discipleship and more, but we'd like your input and ideas too.

christmas firestarter

after the christmas tree festival comes to a close on sunday 14th december, the christmas firestarter will take place upstairs at st john's parish hall from 5.30pm.
